Happy Streets is a free one day, multi-artform festival for people who live, work, or study in Nine Elms (Wandsworth, London). It began in 2019 to celebrate the launch of Yinka Ilori's 'Happy Street' design for Thessaly Road bridge and became an annual event due to local demand.

It aims to connect people to local happiness & wellbeing initiatives through art and creative opportunities across multiple venues in Nine Elms showcasing more than 40 performances, workshops, food, a parade and much more! Partner venues include St George’s Primary School, ROSE Community Clubroom, Carey Gardens & Yvonne Carr Children’s Centre.

Swans Events have produced Happy Streets Festival for Wandsworth Council annually since 2021, from creative programming to full event and production management. In early 2022 we undertook a festival scoping exercise to develop the programme. We worked closely with local partners and stakeholders to develop content that was both high quality and embedded in longer term community initiatives. As part of this exercise, we applied for and were an awarded an Arts Council England project grant.

The festival was shortlisted for best Arts Project – Community Cohesion in the 2020 Hearts for the Arts Awards and appeared on Channel 4 in 2022!

Sahana Gero MBE
World Heart Beat

On behalf of World Heart Beat we wanted to thank you and congratulate you on a really beautiful and lovely Happy Streets Festival. It was full of heart, soul and real charm and was so lovely in the fact that it was a festival for the local people. Thank you for all your imagination, conception planning and organisation and in making everything have such a lovely and joyful vibration.

Danielle Rose
Wandsworth Council

Whilst working at Wandsworth Council I engaged Swans Events to produce a community festival, Happy Streets, across multiple venues. The project involved engaging with two local primary schools, a church and residents associations. Swans Events' attention to detail across production advancing and their sensitive management of key stakeholder relationships made them a great company to work with. They were also very responsive and proactive as we navigated the ever changing Covid event guidelines at the time. I felt like the event was in very safe hands. "
